DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICS

Wigmore Women's and Children's Hospital provides a Developmental Pediatric Service.

You can consult a developmental pediatrician if you have concerns about a child’s development, particularly in the following age groups and situations:

Infants: motor delays, possible global developmental delays, or suspected cerebral palsy (CP).
Younger children: delays in motor, speech, or social development; autism spectrum disorders (ASD); behavioral issues; sleep disturbances; and/or feeding disorders.
Preschool and school-aged children: learning difficulties, developmental or behavioral challenges, attention and concentration issues, sleep disorders, mental health concerns, minimal brain dysfunction (MBD), autism spectrum disorders, or anxiety disorders.

A developmental pediatrician evaluates the child using specialized age-appropriate tests.

Assessments of intellectual development, adaptive functioning, and autism spectrum disorders are conducted using the following tools:

Play Behavior (Zurich).
SON-R 2-8 Nonverbal Intelligence Test.
Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (KABC).
