DEPARTMENT OF PLASTIC RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AND MICROSURGERY

The Department of Reconstructive Surgery and Microsurgery operates at the Wigmore Women’s and Children’s Hospital multidisciplinary medical center.

The team provides emergency microsurgical care for children aged 0–18 with injuries to small and large vessels of the extremities, peripheral nerves, tendons, as well as partial or complete amputations.

Planned plastic and reconstructive surgeries are performed for congenital differences and deformities of the limbs and various body parts, severe postoperative or post-burn scars, as well as removal of skin and soft tissue tumors with subsequent reconstruction of resulting tissue defects.

In cooperation with world-renowned Professor Aram Ghazaryan, Head of the Upper Limb Orthopedic Surgery Department at Édouard Herriot Hospital, reconstructive peripheral nerve surgeries are performed for newborns and young children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy. During these procedures, nerve fibers as small as 1 mm can be repaired using “nerve glue.”

In collaboration with renowned Armenian-American plastic surgeon Andre Panossian from Los Angeles, remote surgeries are performed within the framework of the Ohana One International Surgical Aid Program using the VUZIX M400 smart glasses system, allowing Dr. Panossian to monitor the entire surgical procedure remotely from anywhere in the world.

The department also collaborates with the hand surgery team of Stanford University.

The service specializes in the treatment of injuries, congenital differences and deformities, and acquired conditions, ensuring both functional and aesthetic improvement.
